UX / UI Designer

Aesthetic

Designs how software looks and how it feels to use - layout, flow, wording, accessibility. Research and testing matter as much as visual design.

School subjects

No specific subject is compulsory; Art or Design and strong English help.

How you qualify

A Diploma or Degree in Information Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia or Human-Computer Interaction (NQF 6-7); many practitioners come from psychology, design or IT and build a portfolio. A tested portfolio is the main currency in this field. Entry requirements differ by institution - confirm directly with the institution.

Universities, Universities of Technology and DHET-registered private design institutions

Before you decide. Entry requirements change every year and differ between institutions. We do not publish admission point scores here, because a number that is right for one university in one year is wrong for another. Confirm the requirements directly with the institution before your subject selection form is signed. In KwaZulu-Natal, applications go through the Central Applications Office (cao.ac.za).
