Converts written text from one language into another, keeping meaning, tone and register. Detailed, solitary, deadline-driven work.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is accepted; you need genuine fluency in at least two languages and a very high level of written English or your working language.

How you qualify

A degree or National Diploma in Translation, Interpreting or Language Practice (NQF 6-7). Importantly, accreditation by the South African Translators' Institute (SATI) is obtained **only by passing SATI's own examination** - academic qualifications are not considered in granting accreditation, though they help you prepare. Entry requirements differ by institution - confirm directly with the institution.

We do not publish admission point scores here, because a number that is right for one university in one year is wrong for another. Confirm the requirements directly with the institution before your subject selection form is signed. In KwaZulu-Natal, applications go through the Central Applications Office (cao.ac.za).
