Designs and makes jewellery - working precious metals and stones by hand and increasingly with CAD and casting.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is accepted; Visual Arts and Technical subjects help.

How you qualify

A Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacture (NQF 6), or an apprenticeship leading to a trade test as a Goldsmith or Jewellery Manufacturer through MQA / merSETA-accredited providers. Working with precious metals may require permits and registration with the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator. Entry requirements differ by provider - confirm directly with the institution.
