Heritage Officer

Social

Protects and manages heritage sites, buildings and objects - permits, assessments and public education. Works with national and provincial heritage authorities.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is accepted; History and Geography help.

How you qualify

A BA or diploma in Heritage Studies, Archaeology, History or Museum Studies (NQF 6-7), often with Honours. Work is regulated under the National Heritage Resources Act and most posts sit with SAHRA, provincial heritage authorities or municipalities. Entry requirements differ by institution - confirm directly with the institution.

Public universities; SAHRA and provincial heritage authorities as main employers
