Reports news from another country for a South African or international outlet - often alone, sometimes in dangerous places. A senior journalism role, not an entry point.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is accepted; strong English, History and additional languages matter.

How you qualify

A Degree or Diploma in Journalism (NQF 6-7), then years of reporting experience locally before any posting abroad. Additional languages and hostile-environment training are usually expected. This is reached after a decade in the field, not from school. Entry requirements differ by institution - confirm directly with the institution.

Confirm the requirements directly with the institution before your subject selection form is signed. In KwaZulu-Natal, applications go through the Central Applications Office (cao.ac.za).
