Draughtsperson

Turns designs into precise technical drawings and 3D models for building, engineering or manufacturing, now almost entirely in CAD software.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, plus Engineering Graphics and Design if offered; Technical subjects help.

How you qualify

An N1-N3 or NCV route at a TVET college then N4-N6, or a National Diploma in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Draughting (NQF 6). Some enter through a learnership. Employers weigh demonstrated CAD skill heavily. Entry requirements differ by college - confirm directly with the institution.

Confirm the requirements directly with the institution before your subject selection form is signed. In KwaZulu-Natal, applications go through the Central Applications Office (cao.ac.za).
