Camera Operator

Realistic

Operates cameras for film, television or live events - framing, focus, movement and lighting awareness. Long hours, heavy equipment, freelance work.

School subjects

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy is generally accepted; Visual Arts, Dramatic Arts and Computer Applications Technology help.

How you qualify

A Diploma or Degree in Film and Television, Motion Picture Production or Media (NQF 6-7). This industry hires overwhelmingly on showreel and crew experience, and much of it is freelance and project-based rather than salaried. Start crewing on student and small productions early. Entry requirements differ by institution - confirm directly with the institution.
